As Core & Main’s in-house agency designer, your job is to elevate our creative product and help transform our marketing collateral to serve our vision: to foster a world where communities thrive because our people and products provide safe, sustainable infrastructure for generations to come. We are looking for a creative graphic and digital designer who is passionate about our brand, is a strategic forward-thinker, and a solutions provider who will translate requests for collateral into innovative end products that will serve our business goals.
Our new visual identity reflects Core& Main’s evolving needs, which means your role is to support our overall new branding and collaborate with designers and art directors at our creative agencies.
Major Tasks, Responsibilities, and Key Accountabilities
The graphic designer is a member of and works collaboratively with the marketing and communications team to ensure alignment on creative direction and products, in tune with our culture and evolving internal customers’ expectations.
Highly responsive and able to think/act quick under pressure and changing priorities
Supports internal and external communications, large-scale events, video, print and online marketing materials
Thinks holistically about the brand overall, and anticipates how to handle a deadline driven culture
Understands marketing, digital, and media industry trends/developments and uses this knowledge to create products and files ready for print in particular and various digital media production
Works with the marketing and communications teams to identify solutions through creative marketing strategies
Provides support to functional areas focusing on strategic objectives and consistent delivery of the creative product, including facility artwork for interior and exterior signage
Excellent people skills with ability to interact professionally across the organization, including c-suite customers
Extreme self-starter with attention to deadlines and master of time management
Nature and Scope
Demonstrates skill in data analysis techniques by resolving missing/incomplete information and inconsistencies/anomalies in more complex research/data.
Nature of work requires increasing independence; receives guidance only on unusual, complex problems or issues. Work review typically involves periodic review of output by a supervisor and/or direct "customers" of the process.
May provide general guidance/direction to or train junior level support personnel or professional personnel.
Located in a comfortable indoor area. Any unpleasant conditions would be infrequent and not objectionable.
Most of the time is spent sitting in a comfortable position and there is frequent opportunity to move about. On rare occasions there may be a need to move or lift light articles.
Typically requires overnight travel less than 10% of the time.
Strong Visual/Design acumen: can storyboard and articulate concepts for business audiences
Enthusiasm and energy: acts as an evangelist for branding and design with customers for whom this has not been a priority historically
Works on multiple projects with a strong ability to prioritize
Understands how form follows function with a creative flair that sets our brand apart
3 to 5+ years’ experience in a creative agency or in-house design setting
Must be eighteen years of age
Must pass the Drug Test
Must pass the Background Check
Education and Experience
- Typically requires BS/BA in a related discipline. Generally 2-5 years of experience in a related field; certification is required in some areas OR MS/MA and generally 2-4 years of experience in a related field. Certification is required in some areas.
Adobe suite guru, including video and social media artwork creation.
Proven experience with 4-color printing processes, pre-flighting files, and creating print-ready PDFs is required. Familiarity with design software and basic troubleshooting techniques.
Bi-monthly special flyers for merchandisers and advertising directors to paginate and review products and/or promotions for inclusion. Follows through with design and layout.
Administers databases, including photos, vendor contacts, and PDF archives. Performs regular maintenance of computer and output systems. Makes all corrections and updates to existing product lines. Enters new products for catalog inclusion.
Trade show collateral such as booth art, van shrink wrap and promotional videos
Produces trade publication advertisements, store displays, tool time tags, equipment tags, store promotional materials and special event flyers.
