Summary
The Senior Estimator is responsible for the overall project estimate while providing leadership, training, and mentoring for their team under the Preconstruction Services Group Manager. This position works with clients, architects/engineers, subcontractors/suppliers and internal project teams to develop and deliver cost estimates for building projects; analyzes construction documents, specifications, proposals, and other documentation to prepare estimates for projects by performing the following duties. This position will be responsible for estimates on larger scale projects and/or multiple projects.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Assists in communicating estimating related content at monthly Project Manager Meetings.
Assists in maintaining and issuing Kraus-Anderson Construction Company (KACC) Quarterly Economic Report.
Provides mentorship and training to team members.
Collaborates with Proposal Team to draft and approve responses to client Request For Proposal (RFP).
Participates and presents in Owner/Clients presentations and/or interviews.
Leads team members in completing necessary take-offs and prepares estimates during all phases, including conceptual through final construction documents (guaranteed max price).
Develops and analyzes value-engineering alternatives.
Prepares and presents estimate documentation Project Team and Executive-level review.
Actively participates in design meetings and provides timely feedback on impact of design decisions on estimate.
Obtains and evaluates bids from subcontractors, vendors, suppliers, and identifies qualified bidders for team's consideration.
Effectively communicates with and solicits appropriate subcontractors for the project.
Identifies & solicits appropriate subcontractors by project needs.
Evaluates bids from various subcontractors, vendors and suppliers in cooperation with/support of operations teams.
Analyzes and resolves cost discrepancies.
Mentors and trains others within the organization in the use of estimating software used by KA.
Supports Preconstruction Services Group Manager in regard to identifying and implementing new estimating technology & tools.
Adept and utilizing all of KA's estimating software.
Maintains professional and technical knowledge; brings back learning and disseminates information to management and appropriate team members.
Participates in industry associations, serves such associations in a leadership capacity when possible.
Maintains unit pricing database by collecting current market rates from contractors, review of recent bid results and monitoring market trends.
Captures historical cost data and entry to cost modeling forecasting software.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
8+ years of estimating experience or equivalent of education and/or experience
Demonstrated computer proficiency
Advanced level of knowledge of Preconstruction software
Advanced level of understanding project costs by project type
Ability work under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining positive attitude and providing exemplary customer service
Ability to use time productively, maximize efficiency and meet challenging work goals
Excellent presentation skills and ability to communicate to an audience
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including ability to effectively communicate with internal and external customers
Possesses knowledge of industry leading processes and best practices
Possesses knowledge of current trends and unit prices
Possesses knowledge of Systems/Uniformat based conceptual estimating techniques
Ability to quickly develop high level Systems/Uniformat based conceptual estimates
Ability to quickly learn new software and computer applications
Ability to manage multiple estimates at a time
Ability to maintain compliance with all company policies and procedures and meet quality standards
Ability to possess and maintain exceptional work ethic as well as uphold company values and demand the highest standard of conduct from self and others
Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Bachelor’s Degree in related field
Knowledge of estimating software, such as: On Screen Takeoff (OST), WinEst and Modelogix
Other:
Valid Driver's License, ability to maintain a satisfactory Motor Vehicle Record, and comply with Kraus-Anderson’s Motor Vehicle Policy.
