About the Family & Social Services Administration (FSSA):

The Division of Disability and Rehabilitative Services manages the delivery of services to children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities and has two overarching responsibilities: to facilitate partnerships that enhance the quality of life for children and adults with physical and cognitive disabilities; and to provide them with continuous, life-long support.

Role Overview:

This role, Vocational Rehabilitation Intern, provides paraprofessional, technical and fiscal support for Vocational Rehabilitation (VR) Counselors and other professional VR staff by completing case management/coordination tasks to ensure timely processing of VR cases and quality of service delivery.

Salary Statement:

The hourly wage for this role is $ 16.24.

A Day in the Life:

  • Supports the VR eligibility determination process through acquisition of consumer records from medical facilities, psychologists, schools, employers, other state agencies, etc.

  • Provides paraprofessional support throughout the entire VR service process by preparing and processing authorizations for evaluations needed to verify changes in an individuals disability; processing appropriate paperwork; sharing collateral information with partnering agencies; following up on receipt of diagnostic information, progress reports, and related; obtaining quotes for services.

  • Supports the agency in our attempt to work off of Order of Selection by contacting participants on our deferred list to ensure the accuracy of the information in our system and update anything that needs to be changed.

  • Conducts research to support the VR Counselor in making determinations regarding appropriate vocational goals and necessary services.

  • Ensures case record is updated with appropriate case noting of any conversations with individuals on our deferred list as well as processing any information received from the participant to ensure the Area Supervisor can review the information to determine if the person should remain in the same Disability Priority Level or move to a higher level.

  • Completes a wide range of tasks in a specialized case management system, including fiscal tasks, case notes and other data entry, completion of various forms, developing written communication for consumers or vendors, completing status movements for consumers as they progress through their case, preparing cases for closure, competing intake information, etc.

  • Interacts regularly with VR consumers to answer questions, request information, or follow up on other case management tasks under the direction of the VR Counselor or Supervisor.

  • Runs and reviews various reports to assist with timely processing of all aspects of case management and fiscal monitoring, identifying recommended actions to be taken to resolve outstanding issues.

  • Researches new vendors to meet specific service provision needs, explains payment processes to vendors, and obtains necessary information to add vendors to the system.

What You'll Need for Success:

• Must be currently enrolled as an undergraduate or graduate with an accredited post-secondary institution and have completed at least one (1) year of undergraduate education.

• Experience in working with individuals with disabilities preferred.

• Highly adept in using a specialized client services database; proficient in Microsoft; excellent computer skills.

• Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with clients, other VR staff, providers and vendors, and members of the public.

• Ability to understand and apply written policy.

• Excellent oral and written communication skills.

• Excellent customer services skills.

• Excellent organization, record keeping, report preparation, and other case/file management skills.

• Knowledge of local resources preferred.

Benefits of Employment with the State of Indiana:

This seasonal position does not offer benefits and is limited to 180 working days in an eleven (11) month continuous period
