Summary

The Fontana GAF plant is looking for a dedicated person responsible for testing raw materials, auditing finished products, and supporting plant trials. The successful candidate should have experience in data collection and interpretation as well as storage and retrieval of samples in a laboratory setting. This position will also be responsible for duties that include control sample preparation, monitoring production test data, and assisting in Quality training for all employees at the Fontana plant.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Assist in managing the Quality Assurance department. Identify deficiencies and opportunities for improvements in the quality auditing process. Coordinate testing if needed.

  • Process daily production audit data and enter it into appropriate databases.

  • Perform Daily Shift audits. Perform monthly aged product audits.

  • Perform quality tests, including the stain test, scratching, granule adhesion, tear, tensile, and sealant properties.

  • Support APOs, Receivers, and Production personnel in quality testing as needed.

  • Assist in Completing weekly and monthly checks and calibration of lab equipment.

  • Regularly train production, receiving, and asphalt prep operator (APO) personnel on various quality training.

  • Assist in maintaining shingle and granule color standards for production.

  • Assist with code-related activities at the facility including but not limited to UL, FM, Miami-Dade, and ICC.

  • Assist in the execution of Process and Quality Improvement projects and activities.

  • Assist with training production personnel on Statistical Process Control. Be familiar with the application and examination of WinSPC control charting and data history.

  • Assist in internal compliance audits of production tests, process specifications, plant change notices (PCNs) and other in-plant processes.

  • Assist with plant trials with R&D and plant personnel. Assist with Plant Trial Requests (PTRs) and ensure trials are accurately conducted and reported.

  • Work with operators, production supervisors, mechanics, and others to identify problems and improvement opportunities, including troubleshooting, evaluating possible solutions, obtaining resources, and communicating to the appropriate personnel for further work or documentation as needed.

  • Assist in annual review of Standard Operator Procedures (SOP’s)to SOPs, Operator Station Checksheets, and Operator Log Sheets for respective Process End and Packaging End documentation. Communicate and monitor all operating requirements with team members.

  • Provide support to ensure the Fontana facility is a safe working environment and facilitate the continued development of the Job Safety Analysis for routine Quality tasks.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Frequent use of eye, hand, and finger coordination enabling the use of office machinery.

  • Oralandauditorycapacity enables interpersonal communicationas well as communication through automated devices such as the telephone.

  • Occasionally operate business machines.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear.

  • Ability to read and concentrate via computer data entry typing and proofreading.

Under This Roof, We Require:

Technical knowledge/skills (entry, intermediate, advanced)

  • Familiar with standard Manufacturing concepts, practices & procedures

  • Adequate computer skills – All MS Office programs and in-depth WinSPC

  • Some knowledge of Statistics, Statistical Process Control (SPC), Design of Experiments (DOE), Root Cause Analysis, Variable Process Control, and Kepner Tregoe Rational Process Statistics, SPC, DOE, Measurement systems, process capability a plus.

  • The ability to solve problems at Root Cause using appropriate methodologies (e.g., KT, FMEA, etc.) is a plus.

  • Working knowledge of U.L. and F.M. requirements is a plus.

  • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds

  • Practice Human Behavior Concepts on a regular basis.

Education/Experience

  • High School Diploma Required.

  • Minimum of 3-5 years quality/technical department; experience in a manufacturing environment.

  • Six Sigma Yellow or Green Belt Certification Preferred
